If this is the first time you have visited my blog, you won’t have noticed a difference. But if you are a seasoned “JamieRumbelow.net-er”, you will be able to easily see that I have changed the theme. And if you scroll right to the bottom, you will see that it says “Juiced by Wordpress”.
I know Derek Allard is going to hate me, but I have made the decision to switch from ExpressionEngine back to Wordpress.
Why, you ask?
I have a nice list I am going to type up, but I want to say this first. I still think EE is a great CMS, don’t get me wrong, but I just prefer wordpress. It just seems so much more friendly, easier to impliment. Anyway, here is that list I promised.
- The EE control panel is horrible.
- Contrasting, the Wordpress control panel is lovely
- I didn’t impliment EE too well, which left me without trackbacks, without a proper URL system etc. etc. - Wordpress did all that for me.
- There is just so much for wordpress, so many plugins and themes
- EE is built as a CMS, whereas wordpress is primarily a blog - and I need a blog system
- It takes ages to impliment TinyMCE in EE, Wordpress has it built in.
- Many more I can’t be bothered to talk about.
To sum it all up; I will still use EE for client’s work, and other projects, because it is a great tool despite all these downfalls, but for my own website, Wordpress just cuts it.
In other news, I have quit doing freelance work. I am now a co-founder and the Lead Developer of FourthTimeLucky, a development firm. We are a passionate, interested, energetic group of individuals who love designing & developing websites and web applications.
We have a few open source projects in the pipeline, and will launch BETA versions of them when we launch our main site, which is currently down due to some domain problems.
We will be accepting work from the moment we officially launch, but if you have any enquiries before then don’t hesitate to contact me about it.
Thanks, and hope you enjoy the new blog, and yes, that quote below the H1 is from pulp fiction.
Jamie

Good luck with the transition. I think its probably a matter of comfort. I could implement trackbacks and tinyMCE in under 60 seconds (I’m serious about this, I did it today :)) but I can’t speak to personal preference. At the end of the day, these are all just tools.
1) The EE control panel is horrible. - right 100%

5) EE is built as a CMS, whereas wordpress is primarily a blog - and I need a blog system - you have the right to choose , but man! u are right!!
6) It takes ages to impliment TinyMCE in EE, Wordpress has it built in. - right 100%
