You all know the drill when starting a new Wordpress blog. Upload, install, choose a theme, add plugins, add content, enable Askimet. For three? years now, Askimet has been the standard in “spam” protection for Wordpress blogs.

Not just wordpress though - forums, other blogging software, websites have all tapped into the Askimet service. But there is no reason not to, Askimet works, it’s free, and the Wordpress plugin comes with the default WP install. So, great.

But a new boy is on the block, a boy that promises unbeatable spam protection, for free, just like Askimet. But this boy isn’t from Automattic’s mothership. This boy comes from a far off planet, know as “TypePad”.

Ooo, scary.

So, Automattic’s biggest rival is now launching a new Anti-Spam service, to rival Askimet. So why should you use this? You ask. Askimet is completely free, for personal use only. So, if you want to use TypePad Anti-Spam in anything commercial, you can!

So, TypePad is better than askimet, and you can use it for commercial purposes. Great. But HOW do you use it?

Well, if you’re using Moveable Type or Wordpress, you can visit this little page to get an API key and a plugin. But if you are using CodeIgniter, I happen to have just wrote a CodeIgniter Library to do just that.

I will write a tutorial shortly that shows how to use this plugin, but those who are skilled at the ancient art of CodeIgniting will be able to work it out anyway.
